While the scenic meadows host the Rocky and Western Mountain Blue Bird Sanctuary, this property is surrounded by Doukhobor villages.
Doukhobors were incredibly industrious and once extensively farmed 100 acres of alpine meadows on this hilltop. Trails were created by surrounding villages where they came from the communal farms over 100 acres of farmland. Below is an image of the maze of tails created to access this mountain top property.
North, South, East, and West
Doukhobors pilled rock cairns from clearing the land. On Mtn Spa’s historical farmland, they grew wheat, barley, oat, rye, flax and hemp. Oats that reseed still grow here.
You can enjoy the wide variety of plants and trees planted or naturally grown on the property as the most diversified landscape in all of British Columbia, the largest Bog Orchard with cliffs, alpine meadows, forest and natural springs. Saskatoon berry and jasmine trees line the roadway to the facility.
We have a BMX track available for enthusiasts. You can also enjoy disc golf at our property. Instead of using golf clubs and balls aiming for a hole, disc golf players use discs and aim for a basket. It is a pole extending up from the ground with chains and a basket where the disc lands.
From the geode-rich fields of Rock Candy Mine to the Boundary Museum, there is always something to do or explore, and you never know who you’ll see on the pitcher’s mound at the Grand Forks International Tournament. The timeless architecture of our downtown core invites a stroll into the galleries and shops that anchor our vibrant arts scene. The Trans Canada Trail and the Kettle and Granby River beckon you outdoors no matter the season. Trails are carved out all over the property for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.
