Massage has been practiced by most cultures in the world. Throughout human history, massage and Palpation were the earliest tools people used to assess and relieve pain. The most natural response to pain and injury is to rub what hurts. Massage is continually evolving; it is the most natural and instinctive healing art.
Jocelyn and or her apprentices are available to provide therapeutic treatments. Therapist will gently palpate and release each point of concern/pain. Allow a min. of ½ hour time slots for each body area example: 1) Neck and Shoulders 2) Mid and Low Back, 3) Hips, 4) Knees, 5) Feet, 6) Hands and Arms 7) scalp massage. Your group can book chair massage as well for 15-min sessions. Rates are 100 per hour before taxes
Many methods of massage are available internationally and are sought after by travellers. In some countries like Thailand, massages are very affordable. Massage involves manipulating the soft tissues of the body and is used to help manage health conditions and enhance wellness.
Jocelyn has been teaching since 1985 and offers workshops on Palpation Acupressure Lymphatic Massage (PALM).
Jocelyn has studied many massage therapy techniques and integrates them into a system that uses Palpation, Acupressure, & Lymphatic Massage (PALM). At Mtn Spa, Jocelyn provides and teaches her Palm techniques are used to FIND points where you FEEL pain and then apply pressure to FIX the pain. Jocelyn uses PALM, a Technique that is gentle, firm, and yet consistent, “precision pressure”. PALM is used to locate the exact right SPOT(s). Next, the right amount of pressure is applied for the right amount of time, until the pressure point releases. Pressure points are located on the skin and in the fascia layers. This is where our bodies messaging system communicates your health status with subtle or not so subtle painful sensations. Pressure points are used to resolve these experiences and are mapped out on charts and a reference guide used to find out which points correspond to a specific complaint. See BOOK.
To sense soft tissue damage, Jocelyn uses Palpation, a learned skill of using fingertips and tactile sensitivity. It takes years of practice to become skilled at this art. Palpation provides practitioners with an evaluation tool for measuring the health status of a specific point of pain or interest. It is used at the beginning and end of PALM sessions to evaluate treatment effectiveness. Palpation locates the problem areas where Precision pressure is applied to reduce inflammation, the root cause of pain. Jocelyn will identify the area(s) of injury, and then she will begin to manipulate the soft tissues to restore their proper function.
When you’re under the hands of an expert in therapeutic massage, your body absolutely knows it. During a massage session, you are always in control of the amount of pressure that feels right. Massage, done well, provides an amazing healing experience. Under palpation skills, the body and mind quickly become absorbed by the feelings created by skilled fingertips. Moment by moment, practitioners, who have developed skilled hands can trace your pressure points and know when they are released. This accompanies a feeling of deep relaxation felt as a secondary benefit.
Jocelyn has a lifetime of experience in teaching, researching and most importantly, practicing Medical Massage. She has studied the body and merged the science of how the body works into her practice. PALM techniques relieve pain and improve blood flow internally and externally which in turn allows for cell regeneration.
PALM, combines many massage methods and its practiced is based on scientific principles. PALM when applied scientifically allows for incredible results.
As well as pain, chronic inflammation can lead to progressive tissue damage and age-related disease. Mechano-therapies like massage reduces inflammation, pain, and swelling. Massage rubs out Inflammations. Millions of North Americans receive massage therapy for health reasons such as pain relief, injury recovery and rehabilitation. Research provides evidence for the effects of massage on improving blood flow which promotes health and wellness.
The Touch Research Institute (TRI) researched the effects of massage therapy at all stages of life, from newborns to senior citizens.
Pain is the most common reason patients seek their doctor’s help. As our society moves towards more natural approaches to their health care, we, as health care providers, need to be accommodating our patients’ preferences. At Mtn Spa our approach is personalized to help you derive maximum benefits for your treatment session(s). Our treatments focus on specific points, if you lots for them and they do not release it might take a session or two. Pressure points are felt at very localized SPOTS, when press relieve the root cause of most pain complaints.
Many are inadequately treated by the healthcare system, according to a new report by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Chronic Pain Patients are Misdiagnosed 40 to 80% of the Time. Chronic pain is a very common condition, and one of the most common reasons why someone seeks medical care. Approximately 25% of adults in the United States experience chronic pain. Patients are unlikely to feel much benefit from brief visits with their family doctor or from prescriptions of medications or exercise. Advocates call for better understanding, treatment of chronic pain in health-care sector.
We cannot continue to bury pain under a mountain of pills. CDC-In 2019, an average of 38 people died each day from overdoses involving prescription opioids, totaling more than 14,000 deaths in 2019. Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose is the leading cause of drug-induced acute liver failure in many developed countries. Mitochondrial oxidative stress is considered to be the predominant cellular event in APAP-induced liver injury. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering advice from its Advisory Committee that would eliminate all prescription acetaminophen combination medications (like Vicodin, Percocet). In addition, they are recommending taking the 500 mg (extra strength) dose of acetaminophen (the medicine in Tylenol) off store shelves and make it available only by prescription.
Massage was taught for its medical benefit (est. 1813) by Pehr Henrich Ling of Sweden. Massage was used to promote health, prevent disease, and treat illness and injuries. Graduates of a two-year education program at the Royal Central Institute in Sweden worked in clinics and hospitals. Study included anatomy and physiology, hygiene (health), pathology and movement prescriptions.
While you are visiting us here at Mtn Spa, reap the benefits of acupressure massages or our workshops. We can build workshops and or provide chair massage that will meet your groups needs
A lot of people suffer from chronic lower back pain which, according to IOM, is the most prevalent musculoskeletal pain in the human body. Many of us ignore body pain and keep moving on with our lives until it becomes unbearable. It is the most under diagnosed and under treated medical condition.
The most innate response to pain is to rub what hurts. Massage therapies focus on reducing the inflammation in your body by naturally healing it. Mtn Spa can help you heal from chronic pain with the help of massage therapy.
At Mtn Spa, our massage treatments are focused on pressure points which are of great importance in Chinese medicine. Pressure is applied on the exact rights SPOTS to reduce swelling, pain and inflammation. In turn this improves blood flow locally and reflexively allowing for cellular regeneration.
Ancient Chinese practitioners believed that these points lie along the meridians in your body through which blood flows. Pressure points are used to help stimulate the circulation of chi or oxygen in your body. Pressure points are the same as those targeted with acupuncture, Trigger Points and reflex points.
Jocelyn, as well as being a therapist, is also an inventor.
Jocelyn has been technology to locate painful pressure point and then use the probe to apply pressure. Sen-SORE looks for pain, where a person FEELs pain with varying amounts of pressure. Sen-SORE uses an IR Temperature sensor, a reliable way to assess inflammation from the skin and surface tissues. Sympathetic Skin Responses (SSR) are measured with biosensors that detect skin moisture i.e. sweat. An example of SSR and Temperature sensors used together would be when a child is hot and Clammy, you’d use fingertips initially and then a thermometer to get an actual readout. Stethoscopes measure Crepitus. Crepitus is a grating, crackling or popping sound or a sensation felt with Palpation or experienced as crackling sensations due to the presence of metabolic and or inflammatory waste being mobilized in the subcutaneous tissue. Once found by the Sen-SORE probes, pressure can now be applied until pain relief is experienced.
Data from Sen-SORE is collectable and comparable and can be used in research to provide evidence or proof of treatment effectiveness. She hopes her technology will advance the practice of massage and allows for a new understanding of regenerative capabilities of the Pressure Point System of Healing. See Sen-SORE Technology Measurements supplement palpations, what she feels with her hands as inflammation in its various stages of degeneration I.e. acute, sub-acute, chronic, and or chronic-acute. This is what her hands tell her and what patients concur they feel as pain. Pain is an actual biological entity that has many measurable attributes.

Inflammation - Pain can be felt immediately or may not be felt for many years after an injury occurs. This can even go back to pre-memory, like a MVA when you were a child. When an injury happens, the body doesn’t know what type of damage it is. So, to protect us from foreign object invasions I.e. when a bacteria enters a cut, the body uses suppurative inflammations to get rid of the infection. Non-suppurative inflammations is when there isn’t a foreign object invasion, but the body still inflames.
Acute Pain - Things like impact, Repetitive Strain or over use activities never suppurate I.e. never come to a head. The festering rate can be days, weeks, months or even years before you get a pain notification experience. The common factor is inflammation, the only difference is one resolves, while the other type slowly festers and can come back to haunt you. Some things make inflammations better some make it worse. Massage is super helpful whereas sitting driving long distances cause inflammations I.e. makes pain worse. Time lags are due to exacerbating or subsequential rate of inflammatory responses and whether or not they are resolved.
When you are under the hands of a therapist with skilled hands, they will notice even small micro tears in the fascia. Therapeutic massage works by reducing the swelling in the soft tissues. PALM detects and treats inflammation early before it becomes chronic. Massages help the tissues heal fasted from an injury.
